This is the first entry in a small series of posts where I talk about my experiences with Linux, specifically declarative setups.
After first learning about Linux (and trying it on a Chromebook using crouton), I began to experiment with distros and DEs, finally settling on Arch and sticking with it. Y’know, when did I install Arch?

I eventually learned about declarative distros from one of my friends. What was this mysterious NixOS thing? Being able to define your system once in a few files, and being able to roll back if something went wrong? That sounded pretty enticing, even though nothing had ever broken for me.
(cue the people: “b-bu-but Arch unstable!!”. it’s not. I’ve never had a total system collapse or anything that would make me say Arch is unstable. Arch is what you make it.)
That aside, I started to dive into the world of Nix, NixOS, and nixpkgs.
